Art for Kids, The Hague

Drawing, painting and 3D art work

Elementary art, January week 3. Two dimensional multimedia architectural construction

Children make a drawing of their house, a favourite location, or create an imaginary place in pencil after looking at a slideshow of typical dutch buildings like windmills, the Rijksmuseum, City Halls, the Peace Palace and the Canals of Amsterdam. Basically any kind of building is fine. They will finish their ‘construction’ projects with coloured paper, rubber foam, painted popsicle sticks and add even more texture with coloured pencils and wax crayons. The more colour the better!

Learning objective: Create a two-dimensional picture using texture, pattern, variety and bright colours to create a unique architectural piece of art. As we expressed emotion in our self-portraits these pictures should also have an emotional impact through the use of colour.
