Middle School Art
Students explore the Elements of Art (Line, Shape, Form, Color, Value, Texture, and Space) and the Principles of Art (Balance, Movement, Rhythm, Contrast, Emphasis, Pattern and Unity) and their interaction through class assignments involving still life drawing, figure drawing, landscape drawing, perspective drawing, animal art and drawing from the imagination. Emphasis is placed on the use of art as a method of communication. We explore ways to enhance the illusion of depth through linear perspective, foreshortening, overlapping, value changes and the fundamentals of color.
The Grade 9 Art course extends and expands the techniques and media of art in the specific study of the how of art making. The various genres of art (Still Life, Landscape, Figure, etc) are explored using various techniques in the major media of two Dimensional Art Work (Acrylic, Watercolor, Pen and Ink, Charcoal, Graphite and Mixed Media).
